This week Ariel Hyatt listed 7 things on Hypebot that she hopes will happen in 2011 in the music industry. Some of them were very consistent with the things I hope to realize with Motion Music Manager during the following months. I’ll cite some of Ariel’s remarks and will add my own take to each point.
1. More Support For Each Other. It takes a team to launch any effort, whether it’s releasing an album, getting a song licensed or just getting more fans and followers. I see all too often artists going for it all alone without any help and support. (…) It’s very powerful when artists who are creative and brilliant at making music bond together and help each other make connections and make a difference for one another.
I hope the statistics in Motion Music Manager will provide the industry with some interesting benchmarks. If many people start to gather their social media data and are prepared to share their results with their peers, we will all learn from this to improve our campaigns.
2. More Artists Making a Living.
This is quite self-explanatory. I hope to help artists to actually earn money with their online presence: Facebook fans and Twitter followers should be converted into visitors on the artist websites, where they leave their email address and buy stuff in the band shop.
3. More Rocking the Social Media Strategies. After traveling to 8 countries and speaking at countless conferences I’ve seen the same thing over and over again: Artists’ eyes glazing over at the mention of all of the online work and web tools they need to master to engage their fans. It’s completely confronting for so many artists.
Of course, this is the main purpose of Motion Music Manager: making all the web tools understandable and easily accessible. I will increase my efforts to help artists to understand better what is going on and to shape an online strategy which caters to their individual needs.
Happy 2011!
