More on increasing fan engagement on Facebook

Last week I referred to an article about setting up a good Facebook page. This week I will share some tips about increasing fan engagement on this Facebook page.

Buddy Media wrote a paper about Strategies for Effective Facebook Wall Posts. Hypebot sums up the interesting points for music marketeers. (You can download the free paper here).

  • Shorter posts increased engagement. 27% higher engagement was seen for posts between 1 and 80 characters.
  • Full-length URLs are better then shortened URLs. Engagement was 3 times higher for posts using full-length URLs.
  • Posts outside of regular business hours saw engagement rates 20% higher than the overall average.
  • When asking a question, questions that appeared at the end of the post rather than earlier had an engagement rate that was 15% higher.

To sum up: make short posts, use full-length URLs and post outside business hours. However, this study also makes clear that analyzing the results of your posts is important to improve your communication strategy. Musedash (formerly known as Motion Music Manager) wants to offer the best tools to make this analysis.

This week there was also a post about using the new Facebook Questions to Increase Fan Engagement. The main strategies are:

  • let fans contribute to the creative process
  • use Facebook Questions as a research tool: what do your fans want from you?
  • receive personalized recommendations from your fans: where should you eat or have a drink while on tour?
