The new kid on the block: Google+

You probably all heard about the new social network from Google, called Google+. Yes, I can hear you: yet another social network? We don’t have time for that! Will this be integrated into the Musedash social media dashboard? Not yet…

But I thought that you should spend 5 minutes on reading about it and this is a good article to start: Let’s talk about Google+ for artists.

Is trying Google+ a must? I have an account and I have been looking a bit at it, but I don’t really use it. At this moment, I don’t see it as an important tool for promoting music. But that’s also what we thought at the beginning of Facebook. So, let’s wait and see. In any case, at this moment you can only use Google+ as an individual, not as a ‘brand’ or band (as Bob Baker warned us). Google is said to roll out special profiles for companies and brands later. And we don’t want to repeat the Facebook scenario, where we started to add fans to our personal network, reached the 5000 friends limit and had to move everybody to a new Facebook page.

On the other hand, it can be a good idea to be the ‘first artist’ who does something interesting with a new medium, which can lead to some media coverage. Daria Musk and Rob Michael were the first to use Google+ Hangouts for a live performance stream.

What do you think about Google+
