Facebook’s Musician’s Playbook

This week Facebook published a Playbook with tips and tricks for musicians to use Facebook. I think it’s the most interesting thing to read this week. I really learned a couple of new things that I wasn’t aware of:

  • Do you have the problem that fans started other unofficial pages for your artist and that your fans are interspersed over different Facebook pages? You can merge these ‘fake’ pages into your official authenticated page via this form.
  • You can also ask to remove fake pages or claim urls that were taken by others by filling out the Notice of Intellectual Property Infringement Claim.
  • I always found it a hassle to post updates on your page on my mobile phone. However, if you go to your page (on the desktop version) and click the edit button (top right), you see also a tab with ‘mobile’ settings. There you see some explanations about adding your page to the dock of the iPhone Facebook application, browsing on your mobile web browser (just go to the url of your Facebook page) or sending updates via sms text message (not available in all countries). However, at this moment we are working on a mobile version of Musedash and this wil make sending updates from your mobile even much easier!

The Playbook also talks about the advantages of embedding Like buttons and Facebook Social plugins on your own website and using Facebook Login (previously known as Connect). We did some experiments with these features on our own band websites, such as Amatorski’s site. The content management system of our site is completely embedded into the general Musedash dashboard, as you can see in the screenshot below (click to enlarge). It’s my own artist dream to have my website under one roof together with my social media dashboard. We’re still experimenting with these things, but if you are interested in such types of websites, feel free to email me: hilke@musedash.com.
